What to send us
Questions about a guide, topic suggestions, and corrections are the three things that help most. If you are reporting an error, tell us which page and what you expected to see instead. That is usually enough for us to check it against current guidance.
Send a message, report a correction, or suggest a topic
A few lines are usually enough. If your note is about a specific guide, naming the page and the section you were reading helps us find it quickly.
- Questions about a guide — where a swap did not work in your kitchen, or why a step differs from what your council publishes.
- Topic suggestions — the low waste home guide, composting food scraps at home, or a starter kit you would like covered next.
- Corrections — a figure, a material rule, or a step that has changed since we published.
Email, response times, and working hours
If the form does not suit your message, email the desk directly. Long corrections with links or screenshots are easier to handle that way.

- We aim to reply within three working days. Corrections that affect a guide's accuracy are prioritised. If your message needs a longer answer, we will tell you rather than leave it unanswered.

- The site is run during standard UK office hours, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and Saturday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Messages that arrive over the weekend are read on the next working day.

What we cannot help with
We write general guidance for UK households. A few things are outside that remit, and knowing them upfront saves you a wait.
- We cannot confirm what your own council collects or when. We will point you to their published guidance instead.
- We cannot give legal, medical, or workplace safety advice.
- For anything involving hazardous materials or mixing cleaning chemicals, follow official guidance rather than a general guide.
If you are a business
We do not accept guest posts, sponsored content, or product placements inside guide content. The guides stay independent of commercial arrangements, which is the main reason readers trust the swaps they recommend.
If you have a correction relevant to a guide, that is welcome through the same form as everything else. Send the page, the passage, and a source we can check, and we will look at it in the same queue as reader corrections.
Before you write
Four questions we get often. If yours is here, the answer may save you the email.
Can you tell me what my council will collect?
No. Collection rules differ between councils and change with contract renewals, so the reliable source is your own council's published guidance. What we can do is explain the general principle behind a rule — why separate food waste collection exists, or how contamination affects a recycling load — so their guidance makes more sense.
I want a topic covered. What detail helps?
Tell us the situation rather than the keyword. "My flat has no outside space and I want to compost" is more useful than "composting guide" — it tells us which constraints to write around, and it usually points to a guide we can improve rather than a new one we need to write.
Can I send a correction without links?
Yes. Say the page and what looked wrong, and we will check it ourselves. If you do have a link to current guidance, include it — it shortens the loop, and corrections with a source are usually the ones we can resolve fastest.
Do you answer every message?
We read all of them and reply to the ones that ask for something. If a message is a correction we can act on, you will hear back when the guide is updated. If you send a suggestion we cannot take on, we would rather say so plainly than leave it hanging.

If your question is about making a first change rather than reporting something, the starter guide walks through the swaps that make the most difference at home — kitchen, shopping, and what to do with the things you would otherwise throw out. It is a shorter route than waiting on a reply.
